Under the IB Diploma Programme, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is offered at both Standard Level and Higher Level, and the two share a substantial amount of common content — Number and Algebra, Functions, Geometry and Trigonometry, Statistics and Probability, and Calculus. The difference is depth and teaching hours: SL is built around roughly 150 teaching hours, while HL extends to around 240, going considerably further into topics like complex numbers, proof by induction, vectors, and more advanced calculus that SL students don’t cover at all.

Because the exploration has no fixed exam date, it’s also one of the easiest components to under-plan for.
