Benefits of Interactive Teaching
Interactive teaching includes study methods like brainstorming, focus group discussions, debates amongst each other, playing games, etc. These allows students to commit to an answer, then move to the reasoning behind it. Through discussions with their peers, students often become emotionally invested in the learning. By first thinking on their own, students are able to retain content for a longer period of time. Students are more engaged in their studies, improving their interest, team spirit and freedom of expression. Therefore, this multiples the learning gains, allowing the student to be more motivated and to take ownership of his/her studies.
In Glenn Lee Learning Centre, the approach of one student explaining the concept and other students verifying it is adopted. This verifies if students understand the concept 100% and builds their confidence through presenting them. This has become a proven method to spur students to become initiative of their own learning. Thereafter, Glenn will oversee all discussions and clarify any hazy concepts.
In addition, Glenn will guide each student to construct mind maps to link concepts between chapters. Upon writing their own notes (for the science subjects, Physics and Chemistry), they will be checked by Glenn to ensure a sound understanding of each chapter.
